It's a lot like being invited to a friend's house to watch home movies, but he keeps the real stuff locked up and shows old programs he taped from television instead.. It doesn't have a genuine moment. But even period authenticity would not compensate for cardboard characters and a contrived narrative.. There's a kind of modest American comedy that's so keenly done that you don't bother resisting. All the details feel exactly right for that particular story and those characters. It just works. R...
